We've installed two more large milling machines in our rapidly expanding CAD-CAM Centre of Excellence, bringing our capacity to 9 large milling machines and one 3D printer we confirm our position as the UKs foremost digital dental production facility.

Capable of milling up to 36 units in simultaneously from our portfolio of 20 advanced CAD-CAM materials, this technology produces highly accurate crown and bridge copings, frameworks, precision attachments and full anatomical forms in castable wax, composites (glass fibre polyamide), non-precious CoCr, titanium, glass ceramics, alumina and zironia based ceramics.

We present an introduction to the company, to the currently available 3d digital scanning modalities (eg: laser and optical model and impression scanning, cone beam CT, digital xray, intra-oral optical), the state of the art in CAD for dentistry for crown and bridge, implant, removable prosthodontics, orthodontics and maxillofacial, then compare the current digital manufacturing processes and materials eg: subtractive milling of composites, metals and ceramics, 3d wax resin photopolymer printing and 3d was jet printing (digital wax ups), stereolithogarphy, and laser melting / sintering for direct to metal printing. We compare each, then offer a glimpse of future / emerging technologies. Held at The BDA East Midlands branch monthly meeting at junction 25 M1.

Learning Outcomes

	Be familiar with 3-D Digital scanning and the relative merits of each modality.
	Be familiar with the concepts and principles of CT based implant treatment planning.
	Understand multi-modal 3-D image acquisition and techniques for merging data from 2 or more different sources.

March 1, 2012 - DenCity Dental Technology Innovation Centre (Den-TIC) Opens

Our brand new Dental Techolongy Innovation Centre opens with a state of the art 4 surgery poly-clinic and referral centre, completing phase 1 of the renovation of part of the ground floor of Viscosa House and our Centre of Excellence.

Phase 2 will incorporate a further 4 surgeries and operating theatres for training in advanced surgical techniques, completing the renovation of the ground floor of Viscosa House.

Phase 3 will incorporte an 85 seat lecture theatre with live video feed from the operating theatres and surgeries on the ground floor, 3 conference rooms, and a state of the art training laborartory on the second floor of Viscosa House.

Phase 4 will provide a state of the art CAD-CAM showroom, demonstration and production centre on part of the first floor, and new office space for our administrative, accounts, sales, marketing and management teams on the remainder of the first floor.

Our laboratory space and production facilities are now housed in a new building adjacent to Viscosa House, doubling our overall floor space.

3M ESPE and Straumann plan to adopt DWOS® (Dental Wings Open Software) as the core software for the 3M® ESPE®Lava® and Straumann® CARES® CADCAM systems. This move will not only enhance the capability of the individual Lava and Straumann CARES digital platforms, but will also allow for future connectivity between the two. Collaboration to advance Dental Wings DWOS into the leading open global standard software platform for dental applications, which other companies will be able to build upon. Dental Wings to establish its software arm as a new separate brand: Open Digital Dentistry.

Cologne, Germany - (March 22, 2011) - At Europes largest dental trade fair, the International Dental Show, three companies, Dental Wings, 3M ESPE and Straumann today announced that they are joining forces to create an open global standard software platform for use across a range of dental applications. To advance industry standardization, 3M ESPE and Straumann have agreed to adopt Dental Wings software platform DWOS as the core operating software in their CADCAM solutions. The combined resources of several partners can be expected to achieve significantly more than those of a stand-alone provider. This initiative thus has excellent prospects for establishing the leading software platform in the field.

Thanks to its focused specialist team, Dental Wings has established itself as a leading developer of dental software. 3M ESPE and Straumann add strong expertise and leadership in their fields including digital solutions. The combination of resources will accelerate the development of DWOS into a best-in-class, preferred system. We've installed a 3D-Systems DP3000 wax resin 3D printer in our CAD-CAM Production Centre. This state of the art technology builds on our rapid prototyping (RP) capability launched in September 2005.

In addition to the RP of crown and bridge copings, frameworks and full anatomical forms in castable wax-resin, using the latest CAD software we are also able to digitally print wax-ups for cobalt chrome and injection moudled removable prosthetics, maxillo-facial devices, and bespoke jewellery.

The E.A. Dennison Award is presented each year by "The Dental Technician" for "services to dental technology". Nominations for each year's award close on 1st March of that year.

"Services to dental technology" may include work done beyond the call of duty, the development of a new technique or an invention which has had a considerable impact on dental technology, or any other notable contribution to the continuation or advancement of the craft, such as the improvement of working conditions or methods.

The winner in determined by the editorial advisory board of "The Dental Technician" on the basis of nominations submitted by any person involved in the craft or in any other aspect of dentistry.

The E.A. Dennison Award is a tribute to Mr. Dennison's unstinting services to Dental Technology and recipients of the Award will have contributed to the craft in a similarly unselfish manner - whether "at the bench", in teaching, research, writing, or a combination of these or other activities connected with the craft.

We are delighted to have been awarded Investors in People accreditation. Implementation of the IIP standard has enhanced the long-standing tradition of training process embodied within our ISO 9001:2000 programme by the specification of a formal corporate training policy for all members of our team.

The IIP standard has realised improved performance and communication across our Organisation. In turn this has helped us to demonstrate compliance with the new regulatory and legislative requirements that will be introduced for dental technicians as members of dental team in preparation for dental technicians to be recognised in the UK as Dental Care Professionals (DCPs) by the GDC in 2006.

February, 2004 - Pressable Ceramics Launched

Our Crown and Bridge Department is re-equipped with the latest touch-screen programmable ceramic press furnaces, and we launch pressable ceramic restorations including lab subcontract services. We have adopted IPS Empress and Finesse systems.

December, 2003 - 90th Anniversary Dinner

We celebrate our 90th anniversary this year in style with a dinner attended by all our current team and '21 Club' members who have retired having completed 21 or more year's service.

The evening is attended by Dr. J.L. Attenborough (son of founder) who has now devoted 53 years service, another wonderful celebration of loyalty, tradition, and continuity of knowledge and service.

We exhibit at the ADI Congress in Birmingham for the first time, launching our unique enhanced implantology solution services with on-line case planning and management facilitated through our bespoke software.

We know that time is always of the essence for both you and your patients, and that sometimes an unplanned course of treatment may need completing in a particularly short time frame for a special event.

Extending our fast track laboratory services, we are pleased to announce our new Priority 24-Hour in lab service for all items available on our existing Express 36-Hour service.

Work arriving at our labs under this service will be despatched within 24 hours using a same-day courier service. This means that if you use a same-day courier service to our labs, a case will be returned to your practice for your patient's follow-up appointment the next day, completing treatment in an unprecedented 24 hours! This service is available on weekdays for work booked in prior notice by telephone. Bridgework items are restricted to three units. Complex Megallium® (Cobalt Chromium) castings involving onlays and backings for try-in are not included in this service. November, 2001 - DC-Zircon® (Zirconium Oxide) Ceramic Launched

We produce the first zirconium oxide (DC-Zircon®) milled copings and frameworks in the UK. These incredibly strong restorations are used for large (6 units+) bridges, previously impossible with all ceramic restorations. We use TriCeram® for veneering the machined copings and frameworks. DC-Zirkon® restorations are fixed using glass ionomer cement or in the customary manner.

April, 2000 - BDTA Dentistry 2000 Exhibition, NEC - CAD-CAM Crown & Bridge Services Launched

CAD-CAM milling launched in the UK on our stand at the BDTA Dentistry 2000 Exhibition at the NEC. We produce the first glass fibre polyamide (DC-Tell®), Titanium (DC-Titan®), In-Ceram® Alumina and Zirconia copings which are both scanned and milled in the UK. We are the first lab in the UK to promote titanium as a cost effective alternative to palladium based alloys. This lightweight yet extremely strong metal is biocompatible (giving osso-integration), x-ray translucent, and has thermal conduction properties making it eminently suitable for bonded work.

Budget (NHS)

Crown restorations employ simple contouring and basic shading but still maintain our high standard of fit. Stippled, electrolytically polished Megallium bases are used without a finishing bead or raised retention, and a bonding agent is recommended.

Standard (Independent)

Attenborough's normal high standard. Crown and bridge restorations with full labial characterisation using cervical, body and incisal porcelains. Porcelain butt fit margins and surface staining are applied where required, with finishing bead and raised relineable retention. Electrolytically or mechanically polished. Mirror finish is applied as an optional extra.

Premier (Private)

Four your extra special clients. Crown and bridge work by the polychromatic layering technique using the finest opalescent porcelains with full characterisation and detailed anatomical contouring. Mirror finish Megallium dentures with gold coloured clasps on anterior teeth, and coloured or pink light cured opaque wash on backing and retention areas as standard. Prepared rest seats and free plane articulation.
